Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Release Candidate 0 (RC 0) has a confirmed issue with Master Data Services configuration. The following error is raised by the Master Data Services Configuration Manager when launched:
Before creating an MDS web application, you must correct the following errors:
Internet Information Services (IIS) is not configured on this server.
The required .svc handler mappings are not installed in IIS. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=226284.
For web application requirements, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=215355.

Configuring Master Data Services on a server that is not joined to a Windows domain

Running Master Data Service Configuration Manager with a local account (non-domain user) on a server joined to a Windows domain.
The workaround is simply to join the server to a Windows domain and launch Master Data Services Configuration Manager with a domain account that has administrator privileges. In my case, after I joined the server to a domain I was able to complete by MDS configuration.
Many thanks to Reagan Templin for her above and beyond customer service. She followed up on this issue directly with the MDS Team after I posted a message on Twitter about the issue I was having and kept me posted with updates towards resolving the issue.

Hit the same snag! Thanks for the clarification. I guess I will be uninstalling RC0 and going with the RTM.
Cheers!
Jose,
I too have hit the wall with this one. The same IIS error.
I configured IIS to the settings recommended on page 16 of Tyler Graham and Suzanne Selhorn’s book.
I have removed SQL Server 2012 and re-installed the COMPLETE product with a copy of DEVELOPER edition.. I am running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Any thoughts that you may have would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. MDS 2008 work perfectly on my machine.

Joe, I had MDS working and one day it stopped receiving connections. As it was POC and my admin left the org, I ignored until now. When I try to create a new MDS application, starting up MDS config mgr gets this error. I’ve checked .net 4.0 and handler mappings and everything looks fine. Tried lots of suggestions on web sites but nothing works. Have you heard of people having this problem lately, esp. when it “was” working? Only change I know of was it appears that version 4.0 .net was installed a year ago which is about time that it stopped working.
